Sharpen Your Creation

Editorial Services

You've finally completed your manuscript after dedicating hours, months, and even years to your idea. Now what? If you want your book to have a viable chance of attracting readers or getting the attention of publishers, you'll need to make sure that your book's plot or narrative is easy to follow and that there are no grammatical, spelling, or research errors. Our editors can work with you to finetune your manuscript to keep eyes on the page, regardless of where you are in the editorial process.

Below are a few of the editorial services we offer. If you're not sure what service you need, contact us for a free consultation. We also offer a full-service editorial package which includes all of the services listed below.

Developmental Editing

The very first stage in the editorial process is called the development stage. A developmental editor looks over a completed manuscript (regardless of whether you are on your first or fifteenth draft) to pinpoint any issues with plot development, structure, or character arcs. In non-fiction, a developmental editor reviews your main arguments, narrative, research, and citations.

Once they've gone through the draft at least once, a developmental editor will make suggestions and pass the draft back to the author for revisions and the process repeats as many times as necessary.

Copy/Line Editing

Once the overall structure of your manuscript is sound, the next step is a copyedit or line edit. At this stage, the editor will review the manuscript for clarity, tone, pace, and authenticity, as well as target and issues with spelling or grammar. When complete, the manuscript will be handed back to the author to make revisions as necessary until it begins to take shape.

Proofreading

Following a developmental and copy/line edit, the last step is to review the manuscript one last time for any lingering spelling or grammatical issues. UnTapped offers free proofreading with the purchase of another service.

What's Included?

One of the many issues that new writers come across when hiring an editor is that once they've been paid, they're nowhere to be found. Our editors work through a shared document, so you'll be able to monitor their progress every step of the way. If at any point you have a question or concern, our editors are a phone call or email away until your work is handed off for publication.
